She had attempted to mend some of the damage by removing her weathered, yellowed limbs, covered in marks. After addressing what she could, the masts were reattached, but not properly—now permanently fixed at an awkward angle and bow-legged. Navigation would be an ongoing struggle. The body, too, had made its repairs, counted its victories and defeats, and settled on a method of thinking that would offer answers in the face of future dilemmas. It might seem like the story of a pitiful boat, but I ask you—doesn’t she look happy?
